Green-Richards Passes 1000 Career Points In Bruin Victory

Box Score

By Seth Preuss

COLORADO SPRINGS --- The George Fox men's basketball team capped its first road trip of 2018-19 with a 78-73 win over the Colorado College Tigers. The Bruins needed to withstand a furious rally from the Tigers in the final moments, but they were able to pull out a win to close out the Rocky Mountain Classic on their host's court in regulation.

Recap

The Bruins won the tip and scored the first six points of the game on a pair of threes from Dylan Hamlett and Ryan Lacey. Mason Green-Richards entered the game two points shy of 1000 in his career and crossed that off the to-do list with a triple in the third minute of play to give the Bruins a 9-2 lead.

A Wesley Reynolds jumper gave the Bruins a 17-4 lead less than five minutes into the game, but the Tigers were able to put a run together in the middle of the opening half. The Tigers pulled within five, 23-18, with 10:40 left in the half. The two teams traded shots the rest of the way into the halftime break and left the court with a 45-40 score favoring the Bruins.

The Tigers scored the first four of the second half to cut the Bruins' lead to one, but Reynolds hit a jumper and a free throw to give the Bruins breathing room. A triple from one of the Tigers' reserves gave them their first lead of the night, but Jackson Januik hit a triple to erase that lead and tilted the score back to the Bruins at 54-52 with 12:14 left to play.

Hamlett and Reynolds hit a pair of jumpers to make it 62-56 with less than nine minutes left in the half and the two teams continued to trade shots and stops. With just under four minutes left, the Bruins held a 75-60 lead that proved to be just enough for a win. A withering comeback effort in the final four minutes from the Tigers came up just short as they outscored the Bruins 13-3 in the final minutes, but the Bruins did enough to take the win in regulation.

Top Performers

Green-Richards led the way with 19 points for the Bruins and sprinkled in seven boards, six assists, a steal, and a block in his milestone evening. Lacey tallied 15 points, Reynolds added 14, and Hamlett added 11 points, two blocks, and six rebounds.

What It Means

The Bruins are a game over .500 at 3-2 after the win and got to celebrate Green-Richards as a 1000-point scorer for the program in just their fifth game of the season.

What Happens Next

The Bruins return to Oregon for the next test on the road at Lewis & Clark on Friday, Nov. 30, to kick off Northwest Conference play.
