PORTLAND --- The No. 19 George Fox softball team broke the single-season home run record Sunday, as the Bruins recorded their 40th home run of the season in Sunday's sweep over Lewis & Clark. The Bruins won the first game, 7-5 and the second game 15-2 – six innings.
Recap:
Game One:
Lewis & Clark scratched across a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to strike first, jumping out to a 2-0 lead.
The Bruins responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third to tie the game. Rebecca Pridmore scored on a wild pitch, and then Savannah Vargas single to center field, allowing Roni Braun to score.
George Fox kept it up with another pair of runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead, 4-2. Allison Meyer stepped up to the plate and hit a two-RBI home run to power the Bruins ahead.
Meyer struck again in the top of the sixth, hitting yet another two-run home run. Aaliyah Kautz was up next and hit a single to left field, then advanced to third on the throw, allowing Pridmore to reach home. The Bruins took a 7-2 lead.
A run from Lewis & Clark in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh was not enough to take the lead as the Bruins won, 7-5.
Game Two:
The Bruins exploded in game two, scoring six runs in the top of the third.
Meyer hit her third home run of the day to bring home two runs. Pridmore hit her second career home run to keep George Fox rolling. Annie Veatch hit a huge two-RBI home run for the third Bruin homer of the inning. Kimi Ito reached home as well to cap off a massive inning for the Bruins.
The Bruins kept it up in the top of the fourth, as Kautz reached home on a wild pitch to push George Fox's lead to seven.
Meyer hit her fourth home run of the day in the top of the fifth to pile it on their conference opponents.
Lewis & Clark chipped into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs, setting the score at 8-2.
The Bruins exploded once more, rattling off seven runs in the top of the sixth to push the lead to 15-2.
With runners on first and second, Savannah Vargas hit a two-RBI double after managing to advance to third on the throw. Ito hit an RBI single, allowing Vargas to reach home. Julia Apodaca singled to shortstop, then advanced to second to allow Ito to score. With the bases loaded, Kautz singled to right center field, then advanced to second on the throw, three RBI.
Lewis & Clark was unable to respond in the bottom of the sixth as the Bruins won easily, 15-2.
Top Performers:
Game One:
Meyer was on fire in game one, hitting two home runs for four RBIs. Pridmore and Alex Parker each reach home plate twice to round out the scoring effort. Madison Sorensen recorded her 13th win of the season with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Game Two:
Meyer and Kautz each contributed three RBIs in game two to assist the scoring effort. Apodaca, Vargas, and Veatch all chipped in two RBI apiece to push the Bruins to the huge win. Abbie Bergerson was solid in her six innings of work to earn the win for the Bruins.
What It Means:
The Bruins move to 21-5 and 12-2 in the Northwest Conference after sweeping Lewis & Clark in the weekend series. The Bruins recorded their 40th home run of the season in the series, breaking the school record of 36 home runs set back in the 2016 season. Allison Meyer also tied the school record in a single-season with 10 home runs.

The Bruins host Whitworth in a conference matchup on Wednesday. Game one is set for 10:00 am and game two is set for 12:30 pm.
