Bruins Split NWC Series With Lutes

AUBURN --- The No. 9-ranked George Fox softball team traveled to Washington to complete the four-game series against Pacific Lutheran Thursday night, winning game one, 3-2, and falling in game two, 7-3.

Recap:

Game One:

Rebecca Pridmore got it going for the Bruins in the top of the first inning. After walking to first base, she managed to steal to second and then again to third. Annie Veatch hit a single to left field to send her home, 1-0.

The Lutes responded with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the score, 1-1.

The Bruins struck again in the top of the fourth, scratching across a run to take a narrow lead. With runners on first and third, Kimi Ito reached first on a fielding error by second base, allowing Madelynn Vallejo to reach home.

Pacific Lutheran traded blows with George Fox, responding with a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.

The Bruins managed to scratch across a run in the top of the seventh to put themselves in position to win the game. Julia Apodaca reached first on a throwing error, then advanced to second. Allison Meyer stepped up to the plate and hit a huge triple to right field, allowing Apodaca to score 3-2.

Madison Sorensen came up clutch in the bottom of the seventh, throwing three strikeouts to win the game.

Game Two:

Both teams kicked off the deciding conference game with runs in the first inning.

The Lutes were able to take control in the third inning, scratching across five runs to take a 6-1 lead.

PLU added another run in the bottom of the fifth and the Bruins would need to dig deep to find any type of momentum.

George Fox was able to score two runs in the sixth after a fielder's choice and a throwing error helped the Bruins get on the board.

The comeback fell short as the Bruins split the conference series with the Lutes.

Top Performers:

Game One:

Meyer and Veatch chipped in one RBI apiece to round out the scoring effort for the Bruins. Sorensen was unstoppable in game one, throwing a whopping 10 strikeouts while allowing only two runs in seven innings pitched.

Game Two:

Veatch was the only player to record an RBI for the Bruins in game two.

What It Means:

The Bruins now it at 29-7 on the season and 20-4 in the NWC. The Bruins head into the final weekend of NWC play tied for first with Linfield.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins host Willamette in a conference doubleheader on Saturday. Game one is set for 12:00 pm and game two is set for 2:30 pm. Senior day will be presented after the completion of the doubleheader.
