NEWBERG --- The No. 14-ranked George Fox softball team hosted No. T-16th Linfield in the championships game of the Northwest Conference tournament, losing a heartbreaker, 9-1 – six innings.
Recap:
The Wildcats scratched across a pair of runs in the top of the first to take an early lead.
Savannah Vargas responded for the Bruins, hitting a beautiful home run in the bottom of the first to chip away at the lead. George Fox trailed at the end of the inning, 2-1.
Linfield managed to put runs on the board in the top of the second and third innings before scratching across three runs in the top of the fourth. They led 7-1 heading into the final three innings.
The Bruins were unable to get anything going down the stretch, losing a tough one.

Vargas played well in this one, hitting a home run early in the game.
What It Means:
The Bruins sit at 35-9 on the season and place second in the NWC Tournament.
