Bruins Complete Georgia Trip Against Oglethorpe

Box Score

By: Seth Preuss

ATLANTA --- The George Fox baseball team ended its Georgia road trip on Sunday, February 17, with a 19-13 loss to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels.

Recap

The Petrels plated the first run of the afternoon with a tally in the bottom of the first, but the Bruins answered back to start the second inning. After drawing a walk and taking second on a passed ball, Chase Fetzer was able to score with an RBI sacrifice fly lifted to right field by Jantzen Tamanaha to tie the game at 1-1.

The Petrels erupted for 11 unanswered runs in the second and third innings, however, as the Bruins' pitchers struggled to get the ball to the back end of their battery. Trailing 12-1 in the top of the fourth, the Bruins trimmed away at the lead by plaiting Cutter Kitson with an RBI walk drawn by pinch hitter Connor Smith.

The Bruins put up three more runs in the fifth after a clean fourth on defense to make it 12-5. Three straight walks by Jerred Seamons, Fetzer, and Kitson loaded the bases for Tamahana, who doubled to left center for two RBI. A CJ Ibara single plated Kitson for the third run of the inning.

The Bruins added four more runs in the sixth to make it 12-9 after loading the bases and then capitalizing on a two-RBI, bases-clearing single and fielding error hit by Fetzer. A ground-out brought Fetzer in from third later in the frame.

The Petrels answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull away again for a 17-9 lead. The Bruins got a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth frames to draw within four at 17-13, but a pair of Petrels runs in the bottom of the eighth shut the door for good. The Bruins gave plenty of run support to their pitchers on offense, but five errors on defense proved too much to overcome.

Top Performers

Matt Ramirez went two for three at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Fetzer reached base four times and scored three runs for the Bruins.
