TACOMA --- The George Fox softball team traveled to Washington for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against Puget Sound, showing out with a pair of commanding wins, 13-2 and 17-1.

Recap:

Game One:

Kimi Ito wasted no time setting the tone for the Bruins, tripling to right field on the first at-bat of the game. Roni Braun brought her home with a sac-fly RBI. Savannah Vargas walked, then Claire Fountain stepped up and homered to left center for two RBIs. The Bruins jumped out to an early lead with a big three-run inning in the top of the first, 3-0.

George Fox continued its solid play in the top of the second. Allison Meyer got it going with a single, then Allisa Yabumoto singled and advanced to second on an error, pushing Meyer to third. Olivia Nelson batted both runners in with a two-RBI double. Ito was up next, hitting a single and advancing to second on the throw. With runners on second and third, Alyssa Gonzalez hit a two-RBI single to make it four runs in the inning. They also had five hits in the top of the second alone.

The two-inning explosion put the Bruins up big early, 7-0.

The Loggers were not able to respond until the bottom of the fourth when they scratched across a pair of runs to chip into the lead.

The Bruins were not to sit idly by and watch the home team mount a comeback. Aaliyah Kautz was the first batter in the top of the fifth, and her home run pretty well set the tone for the rest of the inning. With runners on first and third, Ito smashed a three-RBI homer out of right-center field. But the Bruins were not done, as Braun hit the third home run of the inning for two RBIs, advancing herself and Gonzalez for the fifth and sixth runs of the inning.

Three home runs in the top of the fifth put the game away for good, as George Fox turned in a commanding performance with a 13-2 win.

Game Two:

The Bruins wasted no time getting back into the stride of their offense, scratching across three runs in the top of the first to take an early lead. With the bases stacked, Kautz hit a three-RBI double to keep George Fox rolling.

The Loggers responded with a run in the bottom of the first to set the score at 3-1.

The Bruins kept it going in the top of the second. Braun started it off by batting Meyer in from third base. With runners on first and second, Fountain homered for the second time of the day, this time for three RBI. Kautz stayed hot, hitting a home run on the very next at-bat as the visiting Bruins looked unstoppable, taking an 8-1 lead.

George Fox continued to pile it on, scratching across a whopping seven runs in the top of the fourth. The inning was highlighted by a three-RBI homer from Meyer and a two-RBI double from Savannah Vargas. The effort put the Bruins way ahead, 15-1.

Two more runs from George Fox in the top of the fifth put the Loggers away as the mercy rule went into play, 17-1.
