NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Friday night at Miller Gymnasium with a 67-60 victory over the visiting Warner Pacific Knights.
How It Happened
The Bruins were content to attack the Knights from behind the arc in the first. Rachel Parks, Alyssa Wells, and Ella Roberts combined to hit four treys as Fox jumped out to an 18-15 lead. The Bruins didn't register a two-point field goal in the period, scoring 12 from triples and six from the charity stripe.
The Bruin defense stifled the Warner Pacific attack in the second period, holding the Knights to 27% shooting in the quarter. In the closing seconds, Roberts whipped a pass over to Wells, who hit her third trey of the half as the buzzer sounded to give Fox a 38-24 lead at halftime.
Warner Pacific outscored Fox 21-17 in the quarter, but the Bruins utilized quick ball movement to pick apart the Knights' press and stay in control of the game. Six of the eight Bruin buckets in the third were assisted, and the Bruins headed to the fourth with a 55-45 advantage.
Courtney Jackson scored 11 of her 28 points in the fourth for the Knights to keep them close, but the Bruins left Friday with a 67-60 victory. Fox shot a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line, and Jenna Lacey hit a lay-in with 34 seconds left to seal the game for the Bruins.
