NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's basketball team jumped out to an early 20 point lead on Friday night, but a furious comeback from Pacific allowed the Boxers to steal a game at Wheeler, winning 69-68.
How It Happened
Jordan Ryan struck first for the Bruins, knocking down an open three to begin the affair. An early defensive struggle quickly transformed into a Bruin run as buckets by Jenna Lacey and Erin Yoshitake propelled Fox to a 17-7 lead. The Bruins held the Boxers to a 20% shooting clip in the quarter.
Alyssa Wells started the second with a bang, scoring eight in the quarter as Fox raced out to a 20 point lead. The Bruins would shoot 46% in the quarter, but 11 first-half points from Camy Aguinaldo kept the Boxers within 11 at half.
Seven quick points from the Boxers cut the lead to four to begin the third quarter. Fox was able to stem the tide with a drive by Rachel Parks and another three from Wells. Both teams shot above 40%, but five Bruin turnovers limited the Fox lead to just nine, sitting at 54-45 at the end of the quarter.
Pacific once again started another quarter strong, taking their first lead of the game with 5:40 left in the game. The Bruins responded to take a 68-60 lead with 2:17 remaining, but the final two minutes were all Boxers as they scored the final nine points of the night. Aguinaldo hit the game winning free throws in the final seconds to complete the Boxers comeback.
