Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. --- The George Fox softball team split a doubleheader with Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Mar. 20, to give head coach Jessica Hollen her 250th career win at Fox. The milestone further cements her legacy as the only softball skipper to reach that mark at Fox in the program's history.
How It Happened
The Bruins finished the first game in short order with a 12-2 win in just two hours of game play. A two-run shot from Kamryn Potter in the top of the third and a solo shot from Claire Fountain in the fourth clinched the win for the Bruins, but their bats didn't cool off there.
Fountain added a two-RBI single in the fifth and a two-RBI fielder's choice from Katie Ladd brought in two more. Homers from Savanna Vargas, Fountain, and Ladd capped the outing in the seventh for the 12-2 final, giving coach Hollen her 250th win to start the afternoon.
In game two, George Fox took another early lead with two runs in the first frame from Olivia Nelson and Potter. A long fly from Victoria Richter in the third was enough to plate Maclairen Magruder in the third, and a double into right in the fourth frame plated Nelson for a 4-1 lead.
The Pioneers scraped single runs across in the third and sixth innings, but a two-run jack from Caitlyn Rhoades in the seventh got both of those back to give Fox some insurance and a 6-2 lead. The Pios were able to plate five in the bottom of the frame to walk it off, however, splitting the day with the Bruins after a 7-6 final.
Their Thoughts
"I've been blessed with great assistant coaches and players, that have helped us get here," coach Hollen said of her career milestone.
"Today showed us how important playing every pitch of the game is," Hollen said of the weekend opener. "We have a chance to win the series tomorrow, and we are going to come and fight to do it."
