Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. --- George Fox softball swept its Sunday doubleheader against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers to win the series, 3-1.
How It Happened
The Bruins set the tone for the afternoon with a 7-2 victory in game one. A Katie Ladd double in the first plated two runs for the Bruins as she drove in Claire Fountain and Kamryn Potter. In the second, the Bruins got another run from Potter as she drove home Courtney Hunt with a single to right. A Caitlyn Rhoades homer in the third made it 4-0 for Fox, and a three-run shot from Savannah Vargas made it 7-0 in the seventh. The Pioneers got two across with a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally fell short.
The Bruins kept their momentum from game one and were able to capitalize and game two for a series-clinching win, 9-2.
Another first-inning double, this time from Vargas, gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead. The Pios leveled the score with a homer in the bottom of the frame but the Bruins broke it open in the middle frames with five runs spread through the third, fourth, and fifth frames. Three insurance runs in the seventh after homers from Fountain and Ladd gave the Bruins a 9-2 lead that held for the final score.
Top Performers
Ashley Davis picked up a complete-game win after striking out four and spreading three hits and two runs across seven frames. Rhoades homered and pitched effectively in relief, and Vargas was 3-for-7 with five RBI, a homer, and a double.
What It Means
The Bruins improve to 3-1 in NWC competition this season and are 7-5 overall, while the Pios drop to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference.

George Fox returns home to host a weekend Siri on March 27 & 28 against the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers.
