Pacific Coast Cruising; Bruins Take Two in California

9/3/2021 3:30:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pomona, Calif. --- The George Fox volleyball team got its weekend trip to California started Friday morning at the University of La Verne in Pomona. The Bruins earned wins over Whittier and La Verne to open the Pacific Coast Classic.

How It Happened

The Bruins looked a little slow after a long trip in the first set against Whittier, falling 25-18. They rallied quickly and assertively, winning three straight games to claim a 3-1 win in their first match of the day.
In their second match of the day against La Verne, the Bruins were clinical, taking the match victory with a 3-0 sweep with game scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 25-23, claiming an expedient win and ending the day unbeaten.

Top Performer

Sophia Lawrence, the Bruins' 5th-year leader, was consistent all day at the libero spot, leading the George Fox defense and orchestrating effective passes in the attack. The rest of the young Fox roster was able to feed off of her energy and follow her lead in both matches.

Coach's Thoughts

"We had some huge wins today," head coach Emily Davis remarked. "Our team played really tough under adversity, against some disciplined teams. There were a lot of long rallies today so, hopefully, we can recover enough to be ready for tomorrow!"

What It Means
