McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The George Fox women's volleyball team continued its hot streak of play, downing the Linfield Wildcats, 3-1, on the road on Saturday night.
How It Happened
The Bruins and Wildcats began the first half with back-and-forth action. With the game tied 6-6, the Bruins wrestled control of the game with a three-point swing. Kills by three different players helped Fox jump out to a 12-7 lead. Linfield managed to get the game within one point at 20-19, but the Bruins took off to finish the set — four consecutive attack errors and a kill by
Addison Robertson gave the Bruins a 25-20 win.
The second set followed a similar script to the first: Fox and Linfield hung tight in the early stages before the Bruins pulled away. With the game tied at 15, the Bruins rattled off eight consecutive points to take a 23-15 lead, ultimately winning 25-17.
Kaitlyn Johnson had two straight aces during the stretch, while
Kassandra Staton had two kills.
The Wildcats responded in the third set, refusing to be swept and coming out hot. Linfield was up by as many as nine, with a 14-9 advantage midway through the set. The Bruins launched a comeback attempt of their own, tying the game at 23 thanks to several Staton serves. Fox managed to get within one point of a sweep with a 24-23 advantage but fell in the third set, 25-27.
In the fourth set, the Bruins made sure that there would be no comeback attempts from either team. Fox dominated the set, winning in convincing fashion, 25-16. The Bruins totaled 14 kills in the final set, with
Addison Hawes setting up Staton for the game-winning kill.
