NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox volleyball team made their senior night one to remember, as the Bruins cruised to a 3-1 victory over Pacific Lutheran — their first win over the Lutes in three years.
How It Happened
The Bruin's day started off with a celebration of seniors
Bailey LeBreton and manager
Kacey Bouwman, who would be a large motivation for the team and a key part in their success.
After trading points to start the game, the Bruins broke the 1-1 tie by scoring three unanswered, followed by three more a couple points later. Though the Lutes tried to make an effort to battle back, the Bruins soundly shut them out, resulting in a 25-11 Bruin victory in set one to take a commanding lead of the game and the momentum.
Coming into the second set with a lead and the momentum, the Bruins didn't let up, but instead continued to wear down the Lutes. After opening the set with a 4-1 lead, the Bruins bore down to keep the Lutes from battling back, locking down on defense once again to hold the Lutes to a mere 15 points, securing the Bruins their second point and putting them one away from a clean sweep.
Now on the ropes, the Lutes came out hot knowing their season was most likely on the line. After jumping out to an early lead, the Lutes won the set after scoring seven unanswered late in the set, cutting the Bruins' lead in half.
With both teams having something to play for, the fourth set was the most energetic and action-packed yet. The scoring started off hot, with both the Bruins and the Lutes matching each other's scores to keep the game at a standstill. Then, Fox scored three unanswered to garner some momentum and the lead, and after repeating this same scoring bout a couple point later, cruised to a 25-23 victory over the Lutes
