Fox Picks Up Second Straight With Blowout Win Over CalTech

PASADENA, Calif. -- The George Fox women's basketball team began their first winning streak of the season, grabbing another road victory against CalTech, 57-44.

How It Happened
Though the first quarter was a low-scoring affair, the Bruins came out on top of the defensive battle to take an 11-7 lead. The Bruins shot 5-15 from the floor with one triple, while simultaneously snatching one steal to keep the ball out of the hands of their opponents. Fox outshot the Beavers by two in the opening quarter, including draining the only three.

The Bruins found their stride in the second quarter, using a 13-2 run midway through the period to take a commanding 17-point lead into the half. The entire Bruin team was feeling it as they shot 9-14 from the field, including 5-6 from beyond the arc. In total, seven different players scored in the half.

Fox continued its hot shooting in the third, extending their lead to 27 at one point before taking a 21-point advantage into the fourth. Erin Yoshitake, fresh off her 21-point performance against Whittier the day prior, made her presence known; the junior scored 12 straight, all from beyond the arc.

The final quarter was the only one in which the Bruins were outscored, but the deficit was still minimal. However, this was not enough to soften the blow, as the Bruins cruised to victory with a final score of 57-44.

Top Performances
Erin Yoshitake led the way for the Bruins offensively for the second day, dropping 12 points on four triples. Claire Hinds and Emma Reed were right behind Yoshitake with nine and eight points respectively, combining for 7-16 from the floor, including three triples. Defensively, Jenna Lacey contributed two steals, while Ella Roberts and Alyssa Wells each contributed a block.

What It Means
The Bruins move to 4-4 overall and maintain a 1-1 record in conference, which they hope to improve when they return to conference play in January.

What Comes Next
The Bruins square off against Cal Lutheran on Tuesday in Thousand Oaks, Calif., at 2:00 P.M.
