SALEM, Ore. -- After outscoring Willamette in all but one quarter, the George Fox women's basketball team rebounded from their loss to Linfield the day prior, cruising to a 64-51 victory over the Bearcats on Saturday night.
How It Happened
The Bruins jumped out to an early lead in the quarter, scoring the first eight points of the game and taking a 12-1 lead. Fox shot 6-15 from the field and pulled in three offensive rebounds to take a 15-9 edge into the second.
The second quarter was the only period that saw the Bruins fail to outscore the Bearcats. Though Fox shot 4-16 from the field, including two out of eight tries from beyond the arc, the Bruins' defense contributed eight rebounds and one block to maintains a three-point lead going into the half. Â
The Bruins' offense came alive in the third, outscoring the Bearcats 20-16 in the period. Fox shot 50% (9-18) from the field, including one triple, and used a 6-0 run to wrestle away control of the game. Headed into the fourth, the Bruins led, 45-38.
Two treys from
Alyssa Wells began the quarter with a bang and extended Fox's lead to double digits. The Bruin defense continued to shut down the Willamette offense, forcing straight misses as the Fox lead ballooned to 16.
Jenna Lacey finished off the Bearcats with six straight free throws to give the Bruins their first conference win of the year.

Jenna Lacey led the Bruins offense with 16 points, shooting 4-10 from the field and making all eight of her free throws. Lacey also tallied two assists and six rebounds in the game.
Alyssa Wells found her shooting stroke in a big way, hitting four triples on the night.
Erin Yoshitake snagged two steals, while
Alexa Borter registered two blocks on the Bruins' route to victory.    Â

What It Means
The Bruins move to 2-3 on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play, while the Bearcats slip to a 4-4 record with a 1-1 NWC mark.
