Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- George Fox picked up another win in a non-conference matchup against Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday, Feb. 20, to close out its weekend with a pair of victories.
How It Happened
George Fox grabbed two wins in the second and third doubles matchups to start strong against the Boxers. Coach Rick Cruz scrambled his lineups again and put Kalli Wiker with Cassey Hitch to earn an 8-5 win at the second slot, and Olivia Morris paired with Brenna VanderYacht to win the third matchup 8-3.
In singles play, VanderYacht won with the least trouble, clinching a victory in the fifth matchup with a 6-2, 6-0 final. Morris also won her matchup at the fourth spot in the lineup with a 6-3, 6-4 final score. The Boxers won the first, second, and third singles slots to tie the match at 4-4 and everything came down to the decision at the sixth singles match.
For the second time in as many days, freshman Abigail Bond was put into a pressure situation and delivered in key moments to clinch a team victory. Bond won her first set in a tiebreak, 7-6, and battled back from a 4-6 defeat in the second set to claim a win with a 6-1 final set.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was another great team effort; the depth and parity of our team was on display today and really all weekend," coach Cruz said. "We were able to move players around without missing a beat. We definitely made some strides on some areas we've talked about but we still have a number of areas that need improvement to reach our goals. I can't wait to get back on the court against the College of Idaho."
