PORTLAND -- The George Fox women's tennis program opened its fall season this weekend with a round-robin tournament against individuals and doubles pairings from Lewis & Clark, Pacific (Ore.), and Linfield.

How It Happened

Saturday opened with singles play at the Lewis & Clark tennis bubble and the Bruins had all 12 of their players active. Ten Bruins earned a singles win on day one, and every member of the roster earned at least one win in singles play by the end of the weekend. Multiple Bruins were perfect on the singles courts with two wins each, including Kalli Wiker, Cassey Hitch, Elizabeth Cook, Abigail Bond, and Stephanie Ramirez Barreto.

On the doubles courts, Fox picked up five wins from its tandems. The pairings of Hitch and Wiker, along with Bond and Cook, won two doubles matches apiece, while Arriana Rader and Neku Onoja earned the other doubles win.

Coach's Thoughts

"The team had a great weekend!," coach Rick Cruz said of their 2022 opener. "We won almost every match I thought we should and even pulled off a couple of wins that I thought were 50/50. Ellie had a great win against Lewis and Clark's number one and Kalli pulled out a tough match against a good Linfield player. This weekend's results should give us confidence heading into the ITAs next weekend!

What Happens Next

Fox travels to face players from across the Pacific Northwest at the ITA Northwest Regional Championship tournament hosted by Whitman on Sept. 24-26.
