GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Bruins took on two more challenging foes at the Southwestern tournament and went 1-1 on the afternoon to break into the win column for 2022.
Match One - UT-Dallas
Fox scrapped its way to a 25-23 win in set one against the (RV) UT-Dallas Stars in the day's opener after outlasting a late rally from the Stars to close out the set.
The Bruins fell into a 6-2 hole to start the second set as the Stars' servers kept Fox out of system early in hte set. The Bruins were able to return the favor in the middle of the set as Piper Harrop helped the Bruins charge back in front, 11-10, and drew a timeout from the UTD staff. After the timeout, however, the Stars retook control and cruised to a 25-18 win to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set was a marked improvement for Fox in all phases as the Bruins controlled the net more effectively, served and received well, and found holes in the Stars' defense repeatedly for kills at key moments to keep their momentum in a 25-20 win.
UT-Dallas jumped out in front to start the fourth set and never trailed as they pushed to a 25-12 win to tie the match again and force a fifth set that they would capture, 15-11, to win the match.
Match Two - Concordia
The Bruins finished their scond day of competition with a four-set win over Concordia-Texas. Fox took the opening set, 25-23, after attacking very efficiently as a team with a .310 swing rate in the first stanza.
The Tornados took the second set, 25-20, after the Bruins fell out of rhythm on offense. The Bruins were able to bounce back in the third set with another efficient offensive performance and held the Tornados under .100 as a team in the third set before carrying that momentum into the fourth set with a 25-19 win to close out the match.
Top Performances
Addison Robertson notched a team-high 15 kills in the second match and finished with 23 on the day while Kassandra Staton added 20 of her own over the course of the afternoon. Kennedy Kibby dished 76 assists over the course of the day, Piper Harrop had 38 digs, and Bailey LeBreton registered six blocks.
What It Means
Fox improves to 1-2 on the young season with the split showing today.

The Bruins will close out their Texas roadtrip with a tilt against (RV) Augsburg on Saturday, Sept. 3.
