NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruins used an early lead to their advantage to take the last game of their weekend home stand against Linfield in 3-1 fashion.
How It Happened
The game opened with a strong Bruin performance, as they took the lead in the first set and never gave it back. Though the Wildcats attempted a comeback late in the set, the Bruins closed them out for a 25-18 victory.
After regrouping, the Wildcats came out firing, taking the early lead in the set with the hope to level the match against the Bruins. However, after an
Emily Davis timeout reset and focused the Bruins, momentum shifted as Fox took back the lead. The Bruins ultimately took the second set, 25-20.
Now in a do or die position, the Wildcats came out hot once again, and this time did not let the Bruins regroup or regather themselves. The Wildcats were able to hold back a late charge by the Bruins to take the third set, 25-22, and avoid a Bruin sweep.
The fourth set continued the competitive atmosphere, with each team playing with something big. For the Wildcats, it was keeping their hopes alive and sending the match to a fifth set, while the Bruins hoped to close out their opponents and earn their third conference victory. Six straight points gave the Bruins a commanding lead, as they won the final frame 25-14.
