Bruins Clinch First Win After Dominant Display Against Colorado College

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — In 2022, the George Fox men's basketball team fell to Colorado College on a half-court buzzer beater. One year later, the Bruins triumphed over the Colorado College Tigers at the Ken Schumann Classic to collect their first win of the season, 73-69.

How It Happened
George Fox impressed in the opening half, displaying both offensive rhythm and defensive resilience. Both teams missed shots early but quickly found their stride, led by back-to-back jump shots by Samuel Stewart IV and James Moore

After getting out to an early lead, a run from the Tigers put the Bruins four points behind before Senior Kade Sorenson made consecutive 3-pointers to regain momentum. The teams entered halftime deadlocked, 29-29.

The second half was also tightly contested, but the Bruins continued to apply aggressive defensive pressure. They forced 24 turnovers in the half and were able to capitalize, scoring 15 of their 44 second period points off turnovers. After being deadlocked during the middle of the half, Fox was also able to go on a seven point run to give them a crucial buffer as they entered the late stages of the game.

Moore delivered a stellar second-half performance of his own, notching an impressive 17 points by sinking 10 of 11 free throws, capping it off with a three-pointer to help the Bruins secure the win, 73-69.

Top Performers
James Moore's 22 points not only led the way for the Bruins but matched his career high for points scored in a game. Freshman Aiden Price impressed with 10 points in his second start for George Fox, while Kade Sorenson, Momo Stokes and Sam Stewart IV each finished with 8 points. Stewart IV also collected 10 rebounds and three steals to lead the team in both categories.

Coach's Thoughts
"This was a game with contrasting strengths," Bruin head coach Maco Hamilton said, "so we needed to be better at what we do well than them at what they do well. I thought they played out tonight. Great win for our program!"

What It Means
George Fox picks up their first win of the season, improving their record to 1-1, while Colorado College falls to 1-2.

What Happens Next
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, against Portland Bible College in Forest Grove, Ore. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
