Fox Offense Overwhelms in Win Over Puget Sound

NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox men's basketball team scored nearly 60 points in the paint as their offense dissected the Puget Sound Loggers defense on their way to a 98-77 win and 2-0 Northwest Conference start.

How It Happened
Both teams came out in a press, but the difference between the two was that the Bruins were able to break down the Loggers' defense right away, scoring seven points in the first two minutes. The Loggers defense tightened up for a few minutes, enough to bring the game a 9-9 tie before Fox began to slowly pull away. A Nick Greenwood steal and layup put the Bruins up by eleven points, 25-14, with just under 10 minutes left in the game. The play would be the beginning of an 8-3 run that saw the Bruins expand their lead to 31-17 in the next two minutes.

GFU kept the Loggers at a comfortable distance for the rest of the half, going up by twenty points with two minutes left in the half, 50-30. The half ended with George Fox up 53-33, with Fox dominating every stat in the stat sheet. GFU shot 60% from the field, utilizing their ability to speed up the game and get into the paint in transition to score thirty points in the paint in the half.

The second half started slow for Fox, as the Loggers came out determined not to fall away any further, however after five minutes of the half the Bruins had managed to regain their offensive rhythm again, preventing the Loggers from gaining any serious momentum. The Bruins never let UPS within 12 points in the half — if the Bruins regressed at all in the second half, it wasn't obvious from the stat sheet; they still shot over 57% from the field, and on the other side of the floor, Fox held the Loggers to just a 37% shooting clip.

The Bruins would close out the last three minutes on a 10-5 scoring run, with freshman Aiden Price leading the way in the closing minutes with six of the 10 final Bruins' points. GFU wrapped the second win in conference play in as many games, winning by a 21-point margin – their second-largest win of the season.

Top Performances
Aiden Price proved to be a problem for the Loggers, as he scored 26 points while shooting a massive 86% from the field. Nick Greenwood had one of his most impressive games of the season, as he broke open the Loggers' press often and scored 15 points while dishing three assists. The Bruins had five scorers with ten points or more – Price and Greenwood being the top two, joined by Austin Clark with 13, Kade Sorenson with 11, and James Moore with 10.

Coach's Thoughts
"Great weekend for us," Bruin head coach Maco Hamilton said, "I thought we played two phenomenal halves. We also learned that our competitive fight has to be two halves."

What It Means
The Bruins improve to 6-2 (2-0 NWC), while the Loggers drop to just 1-4 (0-1 NWC).

What Comes Next
The Bruins are back at it again on Wednesday, December 6, against Portland Bible College for the second time this season. The first matchup was a 116-44 win for the Bruins back in early November. Tip-off is at 7 pm at Newberg at the Wheeler Sports Center.
