NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox swimming teams put together a successful showing on the first day of the Bruin Invite, hosted at the Chehalem Aquatic Center on Saturday. At the end of the opening day, the men's team sits in first place with 402 points, and the women's team is in third with 312 points.
How It Happened
The meet opened with the men's 200 relay, and Fox placed second – the team of
August Maberry,
Cameron Alexander,
Aries Valenzuela, and
Levi Gibson swimming a 1:28.07.
Fox swept the podium in the men's 100 butterfly;
Daren Sehorn took first place with a 55.46,
Levi Gibson was just a second behind in 56.64, and
Wyatt Greene came in third.Â
Fox's next win of the meet came in the men's 200 breaststroke, where
Cody Moreland swam a 2:28.04 to clinch victory. The Bruins also dominated on the women's side;
Chyanna Blackburn won with her mark of 2:44.32.Â
Next, Chris McLellan finished second in the men's 200 backstroke with his time of 2:09.96.
Riley Parker claimed yet another victory in the women's 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:12.78 to win the event by over four seconds.
Fox's dominance in the distance events also continued at their home meet, as the Bruins clinched two of the three podium spots in the women's 500 freestyle.
Laurel Knox won in 5:20.45, while
Jesse Urback claimed second after her time of 5:23.09.Â
The first day of racing concluded with the men's 400 medley relay, and the Bruin team of
Aries Valenzuela,
Levi Gibson,
Kaden Oprea, and
Cameron Alexander put together a strong swim from start to finish, clocking in at 3:38.65 to secure second place.
What Comes Next
Fox will finish out the Bruin Invite on Sunday at the Chelham Aquatic Center. Qualifying races start at 10:00 am, and finals begin at 4:00 pm.
