NEWBERG, Ore. -- Seven runs across the fourth and fifth innings were too much for the George Fox baseball team to overcome, in their 8-4 loss to the Puget Sound Loggers.
How It Happened
Fox struck first, scoring in the third inning with two runs off of a sacrifice bunt from
Jared Gee and an RBI single from
Jeremy Sangalang. The lead lasted only a half inning, however, as UPS scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning – two off a walk and two on a fielding error. The Loggers took advantage of the Bruin miscues as they jumped out to a 4-2 lead.
The Loggers tacked three more onto the Bruins' deficit in the fifth with a three-run home run to put themselves up, 7-2. Fox was unable to respond until the bottom half of the eighth inning, scoring with a two-RBI single from
Carson Coulter. Coulter's single brought the deficit down to three, 7-4.
The Loggers put the final nail in the Bruins' coffin with an RBI double in the top half of the ninth inning, making the score 8-4 heading into the final half-inning. The Bruins stranded a runner on first in the bottom of the ninth, ending the game as Fox picked up the loss.
