Bruins Look to Punch NCAA Ticket With Win in First-Ever NWC Tourney

4/21/2023 6:03:00 PM

NEWBERG, Ore. -- For the seventh consecutive year, the George Fox women's lacrosse team finished their conference season undefeated. This time around, though, the Bruins will have one more obstacle in their way before the NCAA tourney — a Northwest Conference tournament.

Fox will host the inaugural NWC Lacrosse Tournament, where the Bruins, Whitman Blues, Willamette Bearcats, and Whitworth Pirates will face off to become the first-ever tournament winner.

"We are thrilled for the opportunity to compete in the first Northwest Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament," Bruin head coach Katie Brand said, "This is a huge win for our conference and helps create a championship atmosphere for our student-athletes as all teams contend for a spot in the NCAA tournament."

The Bruins lead the conference in nearly every statistic as they finished the season 12-0 in league play. Fox won their games by an average margin of 13 goals, spreading the wealth while doing so — four of the top 10 conference leaders in goals-per-game are Bruins.

The team will play a familiar opponent on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs — fourth-seeded Whitworth, the team Fox played last Sunday on Senior Night; the Bruins won the game 23-5. The game is scheduled to begin at noon, with streaming and live stats available. Following the game, players from both teams will be available for a press conference, live streamed on the @GFUAthletics Instagram.
