Bruins Secure Multiple Wins on Opening Day of ITA Regional Championship

NEWBERG, Ore. – On Friday, the Bruins kicked off the ITA Regional Championship with an exciting day of tennis at the Multi-Use Facility and Jaquith Park. The Bruins demonstrated their skill in various brackets, notching numerous impressive victories.

How It Happened 
In Singles A, Elizabeth Cook demonstrated her skill and determination by defeating Linfield's Sarah Forester with a score of, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Riley Bobkiewicz faced a tough challenge from Alexis Garner of the Wildcats but emerged victorious with scores of, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3. Kalli Wiker made it look easy, dominating Paige Shinall of the Loggers with a convincing, 6-1, 6-2, win.

In Singles B, Cassey Hitch exhibited her prowess, giving up only one set during her match against Puget Sound's Marissa Perez. Sophie Denham defeated Whitworth's Audrey Judson with scores of, 6-4, 6-2. Shanah Denham delivered a flawless performance, not conceding a single game in her match and securing victory with back-to-back 6-0 sets. Abigail Bond showcased her skills and advanced to the next round after a solid win against Charlotte Makoni from Lewis & Clark.

In the Doubles Main bracket, the Bruins put forth commendable efforts. The Denham sisters formed a formidable duo, narrowly winning their first match, 8-7 (5), against a Linfield pair and followed it up with an 8-5 victory against a team from Lewis & Clark. Ari Rader and Cassey Hitch exhibited strong teamwork, winning their first match, 8-5, but encountering a setback with an 8-6 loss to a formidable Lewis & Clark team. Kalli Wiker and Riley Bobkiewicz were an unstoppable pair in their first two matches on Friday, winning 8-0 against their opponents and later continuing their success with an impressive 8-1 triumph against Whitworth. Abigail Bond and Elizabeth Cook lost their first match, moving them into the doubles consolation bracket, where they won 8-1 to move on to the next round. 

What Comes Next
The Bruins will continue on to day two of the ITA Regional Championship on Saturday, the first matches are set to start at 8:30 a.m. at the Multi-Use Facility.
