NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox women's tennis team continued into day two of the ITA Regional Championships on Saturday. Day two showcased both triumphs and challenges for the participating players from Fox.
How It Happened
Kalli Wiker stood out on Saturday, rallying from a set down to clinch a thrilling victory over Seraphina Vossen from Lewis & Clark, with a final score of, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6). Wiker didn't stop there as she continued her winning streak, defeating Pacific's Stella Nishimura in a closely contested match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Her impressive performance secured her a spot in the Singles A semifinals scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m.
Cassey Hitch was playing in the Singles Main B category, overcoming a deficit to win over Grace Carter from Whitman with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Later, she maintained her winning momentum by defeating Whitworth's Clara Todd. Hitch's play earned her a place in the Singles B semifinals, set for Sunday at 10 a.m.
Shanah Denham showcased her dominance with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win. However, her journey took a challenging turn as she narrowly lost to Linfield's Sam Baltz, with a score of ,7-5, 6-3.
Abigail Bond grabbed a win, 6-4, 6-3, against Libertrad Sarmiento from Whitworth. Later in the afternoon, Bond was in a closely contested match against Pacific's Mia Yamaguchi, ultimately losing with a score of, 2-6, 6-5, 6-3.
Riley Bobkiewicz faced a tough opponent in Julia Longpre from Whitman and could not secure the win. Ari Rader had a challenging match against Whitworth's Pagie Oliver, resulting in a, 6-4, 6-1 loss.
Sophie Denham also faced a tough opponent from Pacific and couldn't clinch the victory.
In the doubles category, the pair of
Kalli Wiker and
Riley Bobkiewicz fought hard for a third consecutive doubles match win but faced defeat with a score of, 8-3.
What's Next
The Bruins will head into Sunday's final day of the ITA Regional Championships. Wiker and Hitch will look to continue into the semifinals of their respective brackets.
