FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The George Fox Bruins' swim teams continued to set records on day three of the Northwest Conference Championships. Featuring 17 athletes across all finals on Saturday night, the most the Bruins have ever had on a single day.
Top Performances
The Bruins started the evening with the Men's 400 yard medley, featuring Freshman
Wyatt Greene. Greene was able to enter the finals in sixth place after a blazing prelims, where he would set a personal record by over six seconds. He would recreate that performance, earning himself a sixth place in the finals.
Cameron Alexander gained a spot in the 100 yard butterfly final, where he placed 10th.
Levi Gibson set a two second personal record in the 100 yard breaststroke in the prelims and earned seventh place later in the finals.
Strom Nordeng and
Jared Gray swam their way into the finals after massive personal records. Eventually, they placed 12th and 13th, respectively, in the finals, with Nordeng dropping nearly a second off his best time.
Aries Valenzuela continued a successful weekend with a fifth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.
Owen Tonseth secured 12th place for the Bruins in the same event.
The women would enter four individuals into the 400 yard IM final.
Kaylee Dicey,
Claire Harmon,
Chyanna Blackburn, and
Ellie Hoover would take the ninth through 12th spots for the Bruins.
Britney Muralt set a personal record in the prelims and the finals of the 100 yard freestyle, earning 10th place in the finals. As the highest qualifier of the day for Fox,
Laurel Knox had a nearly four second personal record in the prelims, good for fourth place.
Jesse Urback saw similar success, earning a spot in the finals after her fast swimming. Muralt would see success again, this time in the 100 yard breaststroke, placing ninth in the finals. Teammates
Riley Parker and
Ellie Opdahl also earned spots in the finals, placing seventh and 16th, respectively.
At the end of day four, the men sit in seventh place, just four and a half points behind Lewis and Clark. The women sit in sixth place heading into the final day of events.
Coach's Thoughts
"We had the most people we have ever had in finals and scored the most points we ever have going into Sunday," said Bruin head coach
Natalie Turner, "Tomorrow is a tough day with some longer races, but we are strong in a lot of those events, and I'm excited to see what we can do."
What's Up Next
The Bruins will compete on the final day of the NWC championships tomorrow, starting with the prelims at 9:30 a.m. and the finals at 4:00 p.m. The last day of events will include 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free, and the 400 free relay.
