George Fox Opens NWC Championship Weekend with School Records

2/8/2024 8:27:00 PM

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The George Fox Bruins' swim teams started their final weekend of the season at the Northwest Conference Championships. The Bruins weren't able to medal during the first day – which featured all relays – but they did manage to set school records throughout the night.

Top Performances
In the Men's 200 yard medley relay, Aries Valenzuela, Levi Gibson, Kaden Oprea, and Cameron Alexander broke the previous school record set in 2019, swimming a 1:36.48 as they broke the previous record by just under a second. Valenzuela swam a split of 24.90 seconds, Gibson a 26.04, Opera chipped in with a 24.09, and Alexander swam a blistering 21.45 second split. The school record ended up being a seventh place finish, as the event was one of the fastest races of the night.

The Bruins wouldn't finish higher than sixth in the events on the night, with both the George Fox women's teams grabbing sixth in both of their events. The 200 yard medley featured Bruin swimmers Jesse Urback, Riley Parker, Britney Muralt and Mia Smith, who swam a 1:52. The 800 yard freestyle relay was swam by Parker,  Laurel Knox, Muralt and Jesse Urback. The team swam a time of 8:00.95, which was less than two seconds away from tying a school record.

What's Up Next
The Bruins hit the pool again tomorrow morning, starting with prelims at 9:30 am. Tomorrow will feature the 500 yard freestyle, the 200 yard IM, the 50 yard freestyle, and the 400 yard medley relay.
