ROCKLIN, Calif. -- The George Fox STUNT team set several program marks in their first day of week two of Jessup University Tournament, hanging tight early on in a 3-18 loss to UC Davis before taking down Saint Mary's in style, winning 14-0. On day two, the Bruins played top competition in Vanguard and Jessup, losing both games but improving their standing.
How It Happened
Against a veteran UC Davis team, the Bruins came out strong in the first quarter. Fox split one point and won another in the first, trailing just 2-3. The Aggies, ranked No. 8 in club competition, took control of the game over the next two quarters though, as Fox was unable to get any points on the board. The Aggies scored seven of the eight possible points to take a 12-2 lead; ultimately, the Bruins fell in game one, 3-18.
Next up was another club team in the No. 13 St. Mary's Gaels, and the Bruins did more than turn it around — they emerged victorious in the biggest win in the young program's history. The Gaels, who had picked up points against club champion Cal Poly earlier in the Jessup tournament, were held scoreless as the Bruins won, 14-0.
Fox scored two of the four possible points in the first two quarters to take a 4-0 lead, then tacked on three more in an impressive third quarter. The Bruins rounded out the performance with a seven-point fourth quarter to defeat the Gaels, totaling the most points in a game this season with 14.
The Bruins went 0-2 on day two of the tournament leg, playing two top-three NAIA teams in No. 1 Jessup and No. 3 Vanguard. Against Jessup, the Bruins failed to record a point, but held off the Warriors for one point in a 0-23 loss.
The best performance of the day came in the game earlier against Vanguard, where the Bruins put up two points against one of the premier teams of the country. Fox scored one point in the first quarter and one point in the fourth in a 2-21 loss.

Coach's Thoughts
We were excited to put some of our most challenging routines on the floor against UC Davis," Bruin head coach
Reba McLennan said, "It's been a great experience watching our athletes grow throughout the season in skill and confidence. Our confidence carried over to our second game against St. Mary's College where we scored our highest points in a game this season. This being our last regular season tournament we really wanted to show the depth of routines that we are able to put on the mat as a first year D-III program."
What It Means
The Bruins move to 3-8 on the season. Though they have yet to face a D-III team thus far in the season, Fox's schedule has them currently ranked fourth in the country.
What Happens Next
The Bruins will find out in early April if they qualify for the Division III STUNT Championships in just their first full season of play. The top five teams in the country qualify for the tournament.
