CLAREMONT, Calif., – The George Fox men's tennis team lost to No. 15 Johns Hopkins 8-1 on Sunday.
How It Happened
Nanase Ebisu and
Vahag Pashayan lost 8-5 in the number one doubles. The number two doubles team of
Eli Mizerski and
Lars Schmassmann lost by the same score.
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore lost by a score of 8-3.
The lone Bruin to win was
Lars Schmassmann in his singles match. Schmassmann was able to get the first set win in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4). He was then able to win the second set, 6-3. Two Bruins battled in third set matches.
Eli Mizerski grabbed the first set win, 6-3, before losing the second set, 6-2. Mizerski lost in the tiebreaker 10-6. In the number six spot,
Nanase Ebisu won his first set, 6-2, and lost the second set, 6-3. Ebisu lost in the end 10-7.
Vahag Pashayan was playing in the number two spot, losing his match 6-2, 6-1.
Hunter Fujimori lost 6-0 in the first set. Fujimori made the second set competitive before losing 6-4. The final Bruin to compete in singles was
Alle Banna. Banna lost his match 6-1, 6-3.
Coach's Thoughts
"Despite having many travel mishaps before the match, we gave it everything we had," said Bruin coach
Mitchell Miyashiro, "But missed a few key opportunities. We are more than ready for the upcoming matches this week."
What's Next
The Bruins are now 4-5, and the Blue Jays improved to 5-3 (on the season. Fox will play on Monday against No. 30 Redlands at 5:00 p.m.
