McMINNVILLE, Ore. – In a game that saw a 43-minute rain delay and just three hits from the Bruins offense, the George Fox baseball team fell to the Linfield Wildcats, 4-0.
How It Happened
The Bruins struggled to get people on base throughout the game, as they had just three hits through the first eight innings and weren't able to bring any runs home. The relief pitching for the Bruins was able to hold the Wildcats after they grabbed two runs in the first after three walks loaded the bases. Fox got quality innings from
Braeden Munger,
Jack Galanida, and
Michael Singleton as they held the Wildcats off the board until the bottom of the eighth.
Wildcats' starter Jake Swensen had a career day on the mound, as he threw 7.2 scoreless innings, and was almost perfect until the eighth inning, in which he walked three straight batters before being replaced. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Wildcats got a timely strikeout to keep the Bruins off the scoreboard. GFU gave up two more runs in a similar fashion to the first in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Linfield to load the bases with one out, which led to a run scored by an error and a walk.
It came down to the Bruins' last three outs in the top of the ninth. Down 4-0, they needed the bats to get going if they were going to win the series. However, The Wildcats' closer was able to get the Bruins to go down in order, ending the game with a strikeout and giving Fox a 4-0 loss.
