7/2/2024 2:40:00 PM

NEWBERG, Ore. – George Fox University removes the interim tag on Mitchell Miyashiro after naming him as the new Bruins head men's tennis coach, Athletic Director Adam Puckett announced Tuesday, July 2.

Miyashrio takes over the Bruins program after serving as the interim for the 2024 spring season. During that time, Miyashrio led the Bruins to a 7-0 Northwest Conference record while successfully defending the NWC regular season title and NWC tournament title. "I am very proud that we were able to pull together as a team and inspire each other to fully dedicate ourselves to finishing off the season with a bang," Mitchell Miyashiro said about last season.

The George Fox alum will also serve as the director for the Bruins' Multi-Use Facility, where he previously served as the head teaching pro for the Junior and Adult Programs, a position he has held since June of 2023. "We are thrilled to welcome Mitchell Miyashiro, a George Fox University alum, as our new Men's Head Tennis Coach and Tennis Facility Director," said Puckett. "Mitchell's enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and strong connection to our university make him a great fit for this role. We are confident in his potential to elevate our tennis program and make a positive impact on our facilities and athletes."

Miyashiro graduated from George Fox with a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design in 2016.
During that time, he was a four year student athlete on the men's tennis team, serving as the team captain his senior season. After graduation, he served as an assistant coach at George Fox, coaching from 2016-18. In addition to supervising and mentoring junior coaches, running classes, camps, and tournaments at the George Fox Tennis Center, Miyashiro was the Tualatin High School boy's head coach for six years and a private coach based out of a Wilsonville, Oregon facility for eight years.

The Honolulu, Hawaii native currently lives in Hillsboro with his wife, Linda, and three pomskies. "George Fox University isn't just where I learned—it's where I grew. As I prepare to return, I am eager to bring my newfound knowledge and enthusiasm to contribute to this vibrant community," said Miyashiro.

The Bruins look forward to defending their conference title during the 2025 season.
