NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's basketball team added another win to their list, taking down against the Puget Sound Loggers in dominant fashion, 75-61.
How It HappenedÂ
The Bruins and the Loggers were neck-and-neck for most of the first quarter in what proved to be a high-scoring affair.
Alyssa Wells set the tone early with an and-one to give Fox a good starting point. The teams swapped points until Fox embarked on a 7-0 run to give the home Bruins a 12-6 lead. The Bruins scored at will as they made their way ahead of Puget Sound, shooting 58% from the field en route to a 23-point first quarter, their second-highest first period output of the season.
In the second quarter, Fox had a rocky start in the first four minutes as
Alexa Borter sat the entire period due to foul trouble. In stepped
Claire Hinds, who filled in admirably; the senior post had two lay-ins and went six-for-six from the charity stripe to match her season-high in points (10) in just the first half. Fox used HInds' heroics to eclipse a ten-point lead — also thanks in part to a
Kylie Ritter final jumper as the buzzer sounded. After two, Fox led, 43-32.
Fox began the next period with the same energy they left off with, and were on a roll with layups from Wells,
Hanne Hopkins and Borter. Midway through the period, two Hopkins free throws swelled the lead to 19 points, 38-57. The Loggers attempted to close the gap with a mini 5-0 run, but the Bruins countered, extending the lead to 20 when
Tara Ushiro knocked in two free throws. Fox scored 20 points in three consecutive quarters for the first time in the season, taking a 65-44 lead in the final frame..
In a scrappy fourth quarter, the Bruins kept the Loggers at arm's length. Wells locked in a three pointer to grow the lead to 23, before the game slowed to a halt. Thanks in part to their free throw shooting through the first three quarters — the Bruins shot 25-28 from the line — Fox was never in danger in the fourth as they coasted to a 75-61 win.
Top Performers

Coach's Thoughts
Our team showed up tonight and fought hard. Puget does a fantastic job knocking teams off their game. I thought we handled their pressure well and were patient within our offense. We got big minutes from all of our players tonight.
