DALLAS -- Competing in their first tournament of the season, the George Fox STUNT team quickly showed why they entered the year No. 2 in the nation, holding off Texas A&M-Kingsville, 11-9, before breezing past St. Edwards, 12-0, to win their first two meets of the year.
How It Happened
The first game against the Javelinas was a true back-and-forth affair. The Bruins started quickly, executing flawlessly in the partner stunts and jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead. Slowly but surely, TAMUK worked their way back into the game, chipping away at the Bruins' lead through the second and third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Fox's lead had completely washed away, with the game tied, 8-8. The crucial moments in the game came down to the final few plays — with Fox executing, taking an 11-9 lead. With one play remaining, head coach
Reba McLennan made a key call, calling a play that she knew the Javelinas didn't possess. Though the Bruins didn't score on the point, victory was secured, and Fox started the year with a win.
Not more than two hours later, Fox one-upped themselves, sweeping the St. Edward's Hilltoppers. 12-0. The Bruins were in control from the very beginning of the game, and tied their second largest win of all time with the victory. It was the second time that an opponent was scoreless against Fox, with the Bruins defeating St. Mary's 14-0 in 2024.
Top Performers
Morgan Lewis was the top performer on the day, totaling 11 points in the first game and 11 in the second to be part of 22 of the Bruins' 23 points, a team high.
Jasmine Dalton was second with 18 points, while
Tori Ward was next with 18.
Luka Ogden was a part of 10 Bruin points in game one, while
Emma Reinke and
Marlee Rae had eight in the second game.
Coach's Thoughts
"Today's victories are a testament to the work our athletes put in every day," program director
Reba McLennan said, "STUNT is a game of precision, teamwork, and perseverance, and our team showed all three in these opening games. This is just the beginning, and we know there's more work to do, but if these first games are any indication, George Fox STUNT is ready to compete at a high level. We're proud of our athletes and excited to build on this strong start!"
What's It Means
The Bruins improve to 2-0 on the young season, the first time they have started undefeated as a program.
