Fox Out to Early Lead After Day One of Multis

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox track and field decathletes and heptathletes got an early start on Northwest Conference competition, taking an early lead overall in both events.

Top Performers
Junior Blake Smith emerged as a standout, securing three individual event victories in the men's decathlon. Smith opened the competition with a blazing 10.98 in the 100 meters, a personal best that earned him first place and 865 points. He followed that up with another win in the 400 meters, clocking a personal-best 49.10 before soaring to a victory in the long jump with a mark of 21-6.75 (6.57m). After day one, Smith leads the field with a score of 3478.

Senior Tom McMillan, made his mark in the shot put, unleashing a throw of 41-1.5 (12.53m) to take first place. Overall consistent play led McMillan to a second-place spot, 25 points before Smith with a 3453. 

Another senior, Max Ashour brought valuable experience to the George Fox lineup, placing second in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 6-2 (1.88m). He also grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 meters with a PR of 11.26 en route to a third-place mark of 3422.

On the women's side, junior Jenna Huntsman delivered a commanding performance in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 14.59 — a personal best. She also added a third-place finish in the 200 meters (25.68) and third in the shot put (32-9.5) to complete a stellar all-around effort in first place with 2883 points.

Senior Breeauna O'Rear continued her consistent heptathlon career with a first-place finish in the shot put, tossing a strong 35-5.75 (10.81m). She also cleared 5-0.5 (1.54m) in the high jump to earn third place, finishing day one in third with 2748 points.
