NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Bruin track team did it again — getting off to a solid start at the Northwest Conference Multi Events and taking in early lead in the conference standings as they seek their eighth straight joint NWC title.
Top Performers
Jenna Huntsman wrapped up day two of the NWC Multis with a great performance. Huntsman placed third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:31.22 before finishing in fourth in the women's long jump with a distance of 17-02.75. Huntsman had a third place finish in the javelin throw—throwing a distance of 98-09 giving her a personal record and putting her in first place for the Bruins and second place overall with a total of 4,669 points.
Breeauna O'Rear completed day two coming in second place in the women's 800m with a time of 2:25.22. She then jumped a distance of 16-06.00 in the long jump and came in fifth place. O'Rear came in sixth place in the women's javelin throw and threw 88-11. She ended in fourth place overall with 4,491 points in total.
On the men's side of things,
Blake Smith had a time of 15.05 in the men's 110mH and placed first and he then placed fourth in the men' 1500m race with a time of 5:07.76. Smith placed second in the discus throw with a distance of 112-10; he then threw the javelin 148-08. Smith had a personal record of 13-01.50 in the men's pole vault, putting him in first place for the event. Smith ended day two in first place overall with a total of 6,642 points.
Max Ashour placed second overall for the Bruins and had a personal record of 16.56 second in the men's 110mH race. He then threw the discus 113-02 giving him first place over his teammates, his javelin throw was personal best with a distance of 45.31m. In the pole vault event, Ashour had another PR jumping 13-01.50 and taking second place in the event. In total, he had 6,346 points at the end of the second day.
Thomas McMillan placed third overall and had 6,314 points to contribute to the team. He had a personal best in the pole vault with a jump of 10-02.00 high. McMillan then threw 34.05m for the discus and threw 152-01 in the javelin event. He then placed in second for the men's 110mH event with a time of 15.81 second, just millisecond behind teammate
Blake Smith.
What It Means
While Linfield's Kira Hawaaboo won the heptathlon, the Bruin women exit the multis with a lead, scoring 14 points to Linfield's 10.
Blake Smith's win in the decathlon gives Fox an early edge, scoring 24 points — 17 more points than the closest team in Whitworth.
What Comes Next
The George Fox track team will take a short break from conference competition as select athletes will be participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday, April 17, 2025 in Azusa, Calif.
