HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Nearly half of the Bruins team earned Northwest Conference honors for their work this season, with three athletes securing spots on the first and second teams.
Zach Moore and
Ikuho Ebisu landed on the All-NWC first and second teams, respectively, while
Lars Schmassmann was named both Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-NWC first team.
Schmassmann had a fantastic regular season, becoming the third different Bruin in four years to receive NWC Player of the Year honors. He finished his season with a 12-5 singles record and a 13-5 doubles record, playing every single match in the No. 1 doubles and singles spots. Schmassmann finished as the No. 12 singles player in the West Region, and had a whopping 5-2 singles record against the other All-NWC first team honorees.
Moore was named to the first-team All-NWC as well, earning a spot due to his performance as the Bruins No. 2 singles player. He finished the season with a 12-7 singles record and a 16-2 doubles record, and ended on a hot streak, winning his last six singles and doubles matches. He was 7-1 against fellow All-NWC honorees, and played a critical role in the Bruins success this season.
Ebisu wrapped up the awards with a second-team All-NWC nod, playing the majority of his matches in the No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles spots this season. He went 8-8 in singles matches and 12-5 in doubles matches, including a 10-4 record as a part the No. 1 doubles team. Despite battling through an injury in the later half of the season, Ebisu still played some great tennis and has a well deserved spot on the All-NWC team.
This trio has played phenomenally this season and look to continue their success on Saturday, April 19th in the Northwest Conference Tournament. The squad travels to Walla Walla, Washington to face No. 3 Lewis and Clark no earlier than 4:00 pm in the conference semifinals. The winner will advance to the conference final with a chance to earn a NCAA tournament birth on Sunday.
