NEWBERG, Ore. — The George Fox men's and women's team competed against the College of Idaho this Friday; while the men dropped their matchup to the Yotes, 96-88, the women picked up another win for the season, 162-23.
Top Performers
Both the men's and women's team began the contest with the 400 Medley Relay. The men's team — made up of
Christopher McLellan,
Strom Nordeng,
Cameron Alexander, and
Wyatt Greene — took second place with a time of 3:45.01. On the other side of the waters, the women's team — composed of
Gabbie Patti,
Riley Parker,
Kaylee Dicey, and
Donna Talmadge — achieved first place after a speedy time of 4:16.66.
Jesse Urback continued the Lady Bruins' success with a first place finish (11:36.03) in the women's 1000 Freestyle, while
Micah Hugo finished in second (10:39.23) for the men.
The men recorded both a second and third place finish in the 200 Freestyle with Bruins Greene and
Jared Gray; they ended the race with times of 1:51.54 and 1:59.48, respectively. The women also had great success in this event with first, second, and third place finishes.
Laurel Knox (2:06.92) finished in first,
Leah Meeuwsen (2:07.78) finished in second, and
Addie Gustin (2:09.95) placed in third.
Alexander continued to flourish into the men's 50 Freestyle where he finished in second place with a time of 22.72 — mere milliseconds behind the first place finisher (22.57). Later on, Alexander achieved first place in the men's 100 Freestyle with a time of 50.95; he was followed by
Mark Seledkov who recorded a third place finish (52.68).
As for the women's 100 Freestyle, Talmadge recorded a speedy time of 58.65 which earned her first place; she was then followed by
Zoey Stapelman (59.26) and
Heidi Gray (59.31) in second and third, respectively. However, Talmadge and Gray didn't stop their success there. The two achieved a second (26.24) and third (26.94) finish, following Parker's 25.58 first place finish.
Both the men's and women's teams for GFU recorded top place finishes for the 200 IM. For the men,
Aiden Buchanan earned first place (2:09.82) and Nordeng earned second place (2:10.40). The Lady Bruins ended the event with Patti in first and
Ellie Hoover in second; Patti had a dominant time of 2:15.57 and Hoover followed not far behind with a time of 2:23.36.
Hoover continued to thrive in the women's 200 Butterfly where she recorded a time of 2:25.43, which earned her first place. Hoover was then followed by Dicey in second place (2:37.13). As for the men, Jansen Tobin earned a 2:08.33 and a second-place finish to get George Fox on the board.
Once again, the Lady Bruins had three top finishers in an event and dominated the 200 Backstroke. Patti led the way in first (2:16.95) where she was then followed by Meeuwsen (2:23.17) and Urback (2:24.18) in second and third, respectively. McLellan and
Owen Tonseth also ended the event as top finishers for the men's team; McLellan achieved first place with a time of 2:15.25 and Tonseth followed quickly behind in second (2:16.06).
Knox achieved an individual first place finish in the women's 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:44.48, while
Abby Roche ended with a 6:13.78 and in third. For the men's 500 Freestyle, Greene remained a consistent swimmer for Fox and added another second place finish (5:16.64) to his record.
In his final event of the day, Strom attained third place with a 2:20.96 in the men's 200 Breaststroke. The Lady Bruins also had top finishers in this event: Parker in first (3:34.70),
Kyah Weeber in second (2:44.77), and
Claire Harmon in third (2:48.93).
The last event — the 400 Freestyle Relay — brought success for both the men's and women's team. Hugo,
Parker Kiniry, Buchanan, and Seledkov competed for the men and recorded a second placed finish with a time of 3:34.98. The Lady Bruins finished the day with another first place finish; Knox, Weeber, Urback, and Gray all recorded speedy legs to ultimately finish with a 4:02.92.

What Happens Next
The Bruin's next competition will also be on their home waters as they go up against Willamette University on Saturday, January 9. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am in Newberg, Ore.
