HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Northwest Conference office announced its Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 6 through October 12, with
Eden Cha and
Isabella Avila securing volleyball honors and
Carson Tapia securing men's soccer honors.
Avila averaged 4.5 digs per set in a 2-0 week for the Bruins. The junior surpassed the 20-dig mark for the second time in her career in a victory over Lewis & Clark, recording 22 in a five-set victory before 14 digs in a sweep over Pacific. The libero had an additional service ace and four assists to cap off the career week. This is Avila's first defensive player of the week honor of her three-year career.
Cha had back-to-back career games as the George Fox volleyball team completed a 2-0 week, averaging 13.5 kills and 11.0 digs. In a 3-2 Wednesday win over Lewis & Clark, the freshman had a career-high 16 kills on a .310 hitting percentage, including back-to-back kills in the fifth set to swing the game in the Bruins' favor. On Friday, Cha had 11 kills in a sweep over Pacific. In addition to her kills, Cha had five service aces and six blocks for the weekend. Cha's outstanding performance garnered NWC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Carson Tapia played the hero in both of the Bruins' games this past week. The sophomore forward secured two game-winning goals in back-to-back wins for the Bruins. Tapia scored his first against Lewis & Clark with just 16 seconds remaining en route to a 2-1 victory. For his second game-winner, he used his nondominant foot to bury a goal in the bottom-right corner in the Bruins' 1-0 shutout of Pacific at home, scoring the lone goal of the match. Tapia started in both matches for a combined 132 minutes of action, helping the Bruins win two straight for the first time since September 2024. This is Tapia's first-ever NWC weekly honor for men's soccer.
Avila, Cha, and the women's volleyball team will be heading to Salem, Ore., to face off against the Bearcats on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. Meanwhile,
Carson Tapia and the men's soccer team will head to Salem one day after the volleyball match, with kickoff set for Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
