NORTH PLAINS, Ore. -- On his first day of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, senior Ian MacArthur made history, recording the program's first ever hole-in-one as the George Fox men's golf team sits in ninth place with a score of 312 (+28). 

Top Performances
Paving the way for Fox was Eli Harrell who ended the day in a tie for 26th with a 75 (+4). Harrell recorded three birdies including two on the front nine and one on the back nine. Christian Chacon followed not far behind with two birdies of his own — one on each nine — to tie for 33rd, 77 (+6). 

Ian MacArthur came next for the Bruins with a total of 78 (+7) and finished in an overall tie for 37th. While the day started off slow for MacArthur, it didn't stay that way for long. On hole three — also a par three — MacArthur sent his eight iron just past the hole on the 158-yard par three. The senior's shot landed 10 feet behind the hole off the back stop and went in for the program's first ace. Later on in the day, he recorded a birdie to finish off his incredible day on the course. 

It's the second hole-in-one in GFU golf history, with only Kayle Hunn recording an ace on the women's side in the second round at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. It's also just the fifth hole in one for all of NWC men's golf since 2020; ironically enough, the most recent hole-in-one came from PLU's Marcus Otto in April 2026 on the very same hole.

Not far behind MacArthur was Chance Griffin; with a score of 82 (+11), Griffin took 44th place at the end of the first day. Rounding off GFU's score was Otto Klein with a 89 (+18). Klein recorded one birdie on hole eight and concluded the day in 45th. 

Overall, Whitman ended in first place with a massive lead of 268 (-16) with Willamette following far behind in second, 285 (+1). Individually, Willamette's AJ Papajohn is in the top spot with a score of 65 (-6).

What Happens Next
The Bruins look to improve on their positioning as they will stay at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course for their second day of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Monday, October 5. A shotgun start is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
