NEWBERG, Ore. -- After a week full of rain, the George Fox Track and Field team couldn't have asked for better meet conditions as they hosted their first outdoor meet of the season for the Rich Allen Classic. The sun shining, and mid-50s propelled the Bruins to show out and get impressive marks, with nine Bruins getting personal bests.
Top Performances
Freshman
Natalie Oathout placed third in the first meet of the day, women's 3000-meter, with a time of 11:56.38. The men took a clean sweep in their 3000, taking up the first six places.
Benjamin Bourne was first, 9:29.21.
Kellen Ruiz got second, 9:47.28, and
Nate Hamilton followed behind, 9:54.47.Â
The women's 4x100 relay competed with only two teams, George Fox and Linfield. Fox's team of
Jenna Huntsman,
Janice Hellesto,
Savannah Johnstone, and
Karys Gates got the win with a time of 50.86. Â
The Bruins also showed up in the women's 1500-meter, getting places second through sixth.
Chloe Cook got second with 4:54.33, and
Karina Rodriguez took third, 4:56.26. For the men,
Andrew Dewar took first place with a personal best time of 3:57.81.Â
Makaylah Johnson got first in the 100-meter hurdles, running a personal best of 14.81. Johnstone also ran a personal best, getting third with 15.62.
Blake Smith placed first and ran 15.01 in the men's race.Â
In the 400-meter, Gates ran just under a minute, 59.91, earning her second place.
Madison Fuller finished behind her in third place, with a personal best time of 1:01.28.
Carson Tapia got first in the 100-meter, a personal best of 10.76, a mark good for seventh all-time in program history.
Senior
Silas Watkins got third in the 400-meter hurdles, 58.91. For the women's 200-meter, Johnson placed third, running a personal best of 26.35.Â
The women's 4x400 relay got first place, winning by four seconds with 4:09.50 (a season's best), with
Madison Fuller, Gates,
Kyesha Farmer, and Huntsman. The men's team,
Simon King, Bourne,
Caleb Doddington, and Issac Montanes got second with a season's best of 3:28.03.Â
For the field, Senior
Angela Hawkins got first and vaulted a season best of 11-03.00. The men placed in the top four, and
Caleb Smith took first vaulting, 14-04.75.
Blake Smith got 13-11.00, and
Caleb Smith got a personal best of 13-05.00. For triple jump,
Kristian Carrington placed first, jumping 44-06.75.Â
Candice Mugo-Wainaina got first and personal bests in two events. In the hammer throw, she threw 154-09 — sliding her up to number four all-time — and in shot put, a sixth all-time mark of 41-02.50.
Joshua Taylor placed third with a personal best of 145-11 in the men's discus and 48-06.75 in shot put — his discus mark good for 10th all-time on the Bruin record books.
