Bruins Kick Off California Trip With Redlands Multis

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox Track and Field team heptathlon and decathlon athletes had an impressive start to the meet, with two Bruins on both the men's and women's side seeing the podium. 

Top Performances
For the women's heptathlon, Freshman Makaylah Johnson ended day one in first overall with a score of 2882, 50 ahead of second place. She placed first in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 14.43. For the high jump, she competed with a mark of 4-11, earning her second place. She also got second in the 200-meter, 25.94, and in shot put, 33-4.5.

Jenna Huntsman was the other podium finisher, with a score of 2615, ending in third place. She came in right behind Johnson in the 200, 26.02, as well as in shot put, 33-1.75. She finished sixth in the 100m hurdles, running 15.37, and 11th in high jump (4-6.25).

Other impressive marks were Abigail Sampson, tying Johnson in high jump for second place, and Savannah Johnstone, pulling up for fourth place in the 200m, running a 26.48.  

There were also two podium finishers for the men's decathlon. Caleb Smith ended day one  in first with a score of 3867. Blake Smith followed with 3606. B. Smith got the win in the 100m dash by a near 0.003 margin above second place. C. Smith finished third with 10.93. 

Both seniors dominated in the long jump. C. Smith jumped a strong 22-9.25. B. Smith followed with 22-3.5. C. Smith shone in the high jump, earning first place with 6-6, about four inches ahead of second place. B. Smith came in second, 5-9.75. 

B. Smith took first in the 400-meter, running a strong 49.48. C. Smith tracked him with 49.97, for second place. In shot put, C. Smith finished fourth (38-6.25), and B. Smith got seventh, 34-0. 

What Comes Next
Day two of the Multis will be Friday, March 20th. The Redlands Invitational will also be on the 20th, starting at 12 PM.
