What Graduation? Younger Bruins Compete in Corvallis, McMinnville

CORVALLIS and McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- While seniors of the George Fox track & field team graduated, many athletes competed at the OSU High Performance meet, as well as the Linfield Open, notching marks to prep for a possible NCAA run.

Top Performers
On day one at the OSU High Performance, freshman Carson Tapia continued to impress, sliding into third place in the 200-meter, nearly breaking into the 20s, running a wind-aided 21.02 to claim third place.

Makaylah Johnson had a record-filled day of her own, competing with Division I runners with a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles. The freshman was the third-fastest time in GFU history with a 14.31.

Benjamin Bourne came in seventh with a season's best of 9:26.41 for the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Dylan Brown rounded out the top-10 performances in Corvallis with a seventh place finish in the long jump thanks to a 6-03.25.

Meanwhile, in McMinnville, Larry Trefry was one of three Bruins to place on the podium in the 800m along with Caden Smith and Isabelle Jones, winning the event with a time of 1:56.48. On the women's side, Jones finished second with a 2:20.40.

The women's throws teams impressed, with Candice Mugo-Wainaina and Evan Roberts winning the discus and the hammer, respectively. Mugo-Wainaina won her event with a throw of 125-05, while Roberts threw a 163-05, beating out her teammate's second-place effort of 146-07 in the hammer.

Andrea Shirley kept things going for the throws teams, placing third in the javelin with a 128-05. Joey Holloway, meanwhile, notched a 182-01 to place third as well, just beating out fifth-place Colton Graf's personal best of 168-10. Graf, Jonah Jepsen (1500m, 4:11.46), Kaito Sakaguchi (1500m, 4:11.55), Ellie Colquhoun (1500m, 5:02.77), Kylie Morais (Pole Vault, 11-07.00), all recorded personal bests while earning top five finishes.

What Comes Next
Though school may be finished, the Bruins still have 12 days remaining to register top marks. Fox will be competing at the Oregon Twilight on Friday, May 8 in Eugene, Ore.
