Box Score

BEAVERTON, Ore.
– After dropping three doubles matches, two of them by narrow margins, the George Fox University Bruins could only split six singles matches and fell 6-3 to the much-improved Pacific University Boxers in Northwest Conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon here at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The match had been moved from the GFU campus courts due to wet conditions.

The Boxers' Megan Yoshimoto and Cat Goya took the No. 1 doubles handily over the Bruins' Mollee Robinson and Corinne Borrelli, but the other two doubles were closely contested, Pacific taking them both by 8-6 scores.  Dayna Wong and Jaime Yoshino prevailed over Courtney Banks and Betsy Ann Penman at No. 2, and Stephanie Velligas and Dawn Greene edged Shanna Lesire and Liliya Abildayev at No. 3.

Pacific took the first two singles matches as Goya downed Banks 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and Yoshimoto dispatched Robinson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.  Borrelli picked up the Bruins' first win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Yoshino, Lesire captured the No. 4 match 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over Wong, and Penman rallied for a third-set tiebreaker win over Tessa Krebs at No. 5, 2-6, 6-2, (10-3).  Velligas closed out the match for the Boxers with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Abildayev at No. 6.
