McMINNVILLE, Ore.
– Completing the road portion of their 2009 women's
tennis schedule, the George Fox University Bruins dropped a 9-0
decision to their Yamhill County counterparts, the Linfield College
Wildcats, in a Northwest Conference match Friday afternoon here at
the Linfield Tennis Center.
Linfield, trying to keep pace with league-leading Whitworth
University which is undefeated in conference play, opened the match
with a sweep of the doubles. Sallie Katter and
Abby Olbrich knocked off the Bruins' Mollee Robinson and
Betsy Ann Penman 8-3 at No. 1, Sarah Click and Sophie Larson downed
Courtney Banks and Shanna Lesire 8-3 at No. 2, and Sarah Watanabe
and Kirstie Franceshina defeated Liliya Abildayev and Lauren Miller
8-1 at No. 3.
Banks gave Click the toughest time among the singles matches,
falling 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4, but the Wildcats rolled through most of
the other sets. Katter blanked Robinson 6-0, 6-0
at No. 1, Olbrich dropped Penman 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, Larson defeated
Lesire 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, Watanabe did the same thing to Abildayev
6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, and Katie Patterson completed the Linfield sweep
with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Miller at No. 6.
George Fox (3-14, NWC 2-11) completes its season with three
straight home matches, starting Saturday with Lewis & Clark
College on the GFU campus courts at 11:00 a.m.
Linfield (13-3, NWC 11-1) visits Pacific University Saturday at
11:00 a.m.
