BEAVERTON,
Ore. – With only five players on hand due to spring
break family plans and other commitments, the George Fox University
Bruins were at a decided disadvantage against the Lewis & Clark
College Pioneers and dropped a 7-2 decision in a Northwest
Conference women's tennis match that was moved here to the
Tualatin Hills Tennis Center Saturday due to wet courts on the GFU
campus.
Lewis & Clark took the doubles as Amalia Nilsson and Whitney
DeBree downed the Bruins' Mollee Robinson and Betsy Ann
Penman 8-2 at No. 1, Mika Yokoyama and Alix Dixon edged Shanna
Lesire and Courtney Banks 8-6 at No. 2, and Jill Coleman and Paige
Earhart won be default at No. 3.
The Pios took the top two singles as Nilsson defeated Robinson
6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and DeBree swept Penman 6-0, 6-0 at No.
2. George Fox picked up its two wins at the
middle singles as Lesire shaded Earhart 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No.
3 and Banks beat Coleman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. The
Pios' Clio Beatty downed the Bruins' Lauren Miller 6-0,
6-1 at No. 5, and Yokoyama won by default at No. 6.
George Fox (3-15, NWC 2-12) completes its regular season at next
weekend with the University of Puget Sound on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
and Willamette University on Saturday at 11:00
a.m. Lewis & Clark (10-8, NWC 7-6) is back
in action Sunday at Willamette at 4:00 p.m.
