BEAVERTON, Ore.
– In their first non-Northwest Conference match of the
season, the George Fox University Bruins dropped a 7-1 decision,
with one match unfinished, to the visiting College of Idaho Lady
'Yotes in women's tennis action Saturday evening here
at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
All three doubles matches went to the Lady 'Yotes as Kim
Clements and Kate Leadbetter defeated Betsy Ann Penman and Courtney
Banks 8-1 at No. 1, Amanda McEldowney and Melissa Rowe dropped
Shanna Lesire and Liliya Abildayev 8-3 at No. 2, and Tara Wensel
and Molly Leadbetter beat Mollee Robinson and Lauren Miller 8-3 at
No. 3.
The top four singles also went to the visitors, with Kate
Leadbetter edging Robinson 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 at No. 1; McEldowney
downing Banks 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 2; Clements clipping Lesire 7-5,
6-4 at No. 3; and Molly Leadbetter bettering Penman 6-2, 6-3 at No.
4. The No. 5 match between Abildayev and Rowe
went unfinished with time running out on the Bruins' court
rental and the overall winner decided. The
Bruins' lone win came at No. 6 singles as Thalia Delgado won
over Theresa Kucera 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
George Fox (2-6) returns to conference play Sunday with a visit to
Willamette University for a 4:00 p.m. match that has been moved
from its original 1:00 p.m. start time. The
College of Idaho (1-2) also plays at Willamette Sunday at 9:00
a.m., necessitating the later start for the Bruins and Bearcats.
