PARKLAND, Wash. – David
Rickey gave George Fox University an early lead with the
Bruins' first goal after five straight games being of
shut out, but the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes exploded for
five goals thereafter to take a 5-1 win in Northwest Conference
men's soccer action Saturday afternoon here at the PLU soccer
field.
The Bruins picked up their first score since a 4-1 loss at
Trinity Lutheran College on Sept. 4 when Rickey raced through the
defense to latch onto a Sean Jany pass and slot the ball under PLU
keeper Brian Kostol from 10 yards out. It was Rickey's
first goal of the season, but it would be the only shot on goal
that Kostol would face all day.
The score stayed that way for 15 minutes until Daniele
Zaccagnini scored the first of his two goals in the game, settling
a pass from Surafel Wodajo just outside the box and hitting a
bullet inside the left post for his fourth goal of the season. The
Lutes made it 2-1 at 37:09 when Lucas McCallum ran onto Mark
Lee's pass and scored from 10 yards out for his third score
of the season.
Zaccagnini tallied his second goal of the game and fifth of the
season 11 minutes into the final half, running onto a through ball
from Chad Kearns and slipping it under Bruin keeper Elliott
Davis. Kearns made it 4-1 at 64:03, heading home Giancarlo
Santoro's cross from the right wing for his
conference-leading 10th goal of the season. Mohamed Bouzacraft
scored his first goal on a penalty kick at 76:00 after Brenda Cohen
was fouled in the box to finish off the scoring.
The Lutes finished with 21 total shots, including 14 on goal,
while the Bruins managed eight shots. Davis played 77 minutes
and notched nine saves, while Kasey Haugan had no saves in mop-up
work.
