BEAVERTON, Ore. –
Bringing the home portion of their season to a close, the George
Fox University Bruins dropped a 7-2 decision to the visiting
University of Puget Sound Loggers in a Northwest Conference
women's tennis match that was moved from the rain-soaked GFU
campus courts to the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center here Saturday.
The Loggers got off to a good start by taking all three doubles
matches as Samantha Taylor and Madison Holtz knocked off the
Bruins' Mollee Robinson and Molly Beaumont 8-2 at No. 1,
Maddie Thiese and Ada Yu squeaked past Cara Griffith and Allie
Michelotti 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2, and Ashley Dombrow and Devin Fields
cruised past Liliya Abildayeva and Shawna Buck 8-1 at No. 3.
Beaumont picked up the Bruins' first win of the day at No.
1 singles as she topped Taylor 6-2, 6-3. Holtz overcame
Robinson 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 2 and Thiesse blanked
Michelotti 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 for a pair of Logger victories.
Griffith gave George Fox its second win with a 6-3, 6-3 decision
over Yu at No. 4, but Puget Sound sewed up the victory as Katie
Hurley rallied by Abildayeva 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 and Dombrow
shut out Buck 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
George Fox (0-15, NWC 0-14) closes out the season with two on
the road, starting with a Thursday match at Linfield College at
3:30 p.m. Puget Sound (4-13, NWC 2-12) hosts Linfield Friday
at 4:00 p.m.
