McMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Danny Snelgrow tied a Linfield College single-game record with five
goals scored as the Wildcats coasted past their Yamhill County
rivals, the George Fox University Bruins, 7-0 in Northwest
Conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon here at the
Linfield soccer field.
Linfield set the tone on the offensive end early and often,
out-shooting the Bruins 18-1 over the first 45 minutes.
However, the Wildcats were unable to dent the scoreboard until the
37th minute, when Snelgrow picked up his first goal with a shot to
the right corner of the net following a cross from Kevin
Donato. With less than two minutes remaining in the first
half, Snelgrow gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal,
and that was the score at the half.
Snelgrow put the Bruins away by scoring the Wildcats' first
two goals of the second half, connecting in the 49th and 61st
minutes with assists from Donato and Colin Bebee. Following a
Michel Camacho goal in the 65th minute with an assist by Cody
Escott, Snelgrow made it 6-0 in the 69th minute on another
unassisted score that allowed him to match Jeff Brooks'
five-goal showing in 1984. Escott capped off the scoring with
an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute.
Linfield out-shot George Fox 29-3 overall and 15-1 in shots on
goal. It was the Bruins' most lopsided defeat since a
7-0 setback at Whitworth University on Oct. 15, 2005, and was the
fifth straight game in which they have been shut out.
Torrey Santiago had the Bruins' lone shot
that had a chance to go in, and it was stopped by Cody Tipton in
the second half. Elliott Davis made eight saves in goal for
the Bruins.
